Autumn leaves can make your lawn and pathways extremely slippery, so clear any obstructed leaves. Remove leaves from pest prone plants such as roses.  You can also rake the leaves to make leaf mold to feed next year’s plants. We have tools to help – lawn rake, leaf rake.

Remember to be careful when clearing away garden leaves, they provide great shelter for your wildlife.

Top Tip: Remove any leaves piling up your timber fence panels.  This helps against the moisture from the leaves rotting the timber.  Gravelboards will help protect the lower part of your fence.

Cut back old perennials

Your fences, trellis and garden lattice are probably supporting any shrubs and climbing plants, be sure to prune back dead foliage.  Remove dead stems on your perennials to prevent any pests and diseases.

For those caring for vegetable plots, make sure you clear spent plants such as peas and beans before they rot.

Plant for spring
