October Half Term – Pick Your Own Pumpkins
October 21, 2018
It’s October Half Term and Halloween is just around the corner…
Picking your own pumpkins has become a hot trend in the UK. It creates a fantastic family day out. The children get to spend time choosing their pumpkin straight from the pumpkin patch and the fun continues all the way home, when they get to start carving!
Once you have your pumpkins you can make some delicious recipes including pumpkin soup, cake, pie or even just roasted along side your Sunday roast. A fantastic way to get the children making recipes with their very own hand picked pumpkins!
Not to mention pumpkins are also great fun to grow with your children too…
You can pick up planting pumpkins seeds is most garden centres. Instructions on when to plant and the number of days to maturity will be stated on the packet. Pumpkins can be grown indoors and outdoors. Seeds can be sown in pots from April to June and once the seeds are established, you can then plant outdoors. Seeds can be sown directly into the ground from late May to early summer. Pumpkins thrive in warmer weather, so don’t plant outside until there is no chance of frost. The kids can then watch them grow!!
